General Questions
What is Ohana Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
Ohana DPC is a membership-based primary care clinic that provides personalized, relationship-focused healthcare. By stepping away from the traditional insurance model, our practice offers easier access, longer visits, and more direct communication with your provider.
What does “Ohana” mean?
Ohana is a Hawaiian word meaning family — reflecting our mission to treat patients with the warmth, commitment, and personal attention of family-centered care.
Membership & What's Included
How does the Ohana DPC membership work?
You pay a flat monthly membership fee directly to Ohana DPC instead of traditional insurance billing. This membership covers most primary care services without copays or insurance hassles.
What are the membership options available?
Ohana DPC offers plans for individuals, families, small businesses, and fire departments — with each plan giving unlimited access to core primary care services.
Are there any upfront or enrollment fees?
Memberships have an initial enrollment fee. Learn more in the Memberships section of our website.
What services are covered with my membership?
Membership includes unlimited primary care visits, preventive care, sick visits, and access to wholesale lab pricing, low-cost medications, and radiology services — all with transparent pricing and no surprise bills.
Can I see a provider as often as I need to?
Yes — Ohana DPC membership generally covers unlimited visits without extra per-visit charges for included services.
Do you offer same-day or urgent care appointments?
Yes — members can typically access timely care, including same-day or next-day scheduling, without long waits.
Will I see the same provider every time?
Yes — the DPC model prioritizes continuity of care, so you build an ongoing relationship with a provider who knows your health history. If your provider is unavailable for timely care, we will get you in to see one of our other providers.
Can I contact my provider directly?
Yes — part of the DPC approach is direct communication, often through secure messaging or phone, giving you easier access to your care team.
Insurance & Outside Services
Do you take health insurance?
No. Ohana DPC does not bill insurance. Membership fees are paid directly to the practice, which eliminates many administrative barriers and allows more personalized care.
Should I still have health insurance?
Yes — it’s recommended to maintain health insurance (like a high-deductible or catastrophic plan) to cover major medical needs such as hospitalizations, specialists, or emergencies that fall outside primary care.
What happens if I need labs, imaging, or specialist care?
Ohana DPC can help coordinate labs and imaging at reduced costs and refer you to specialists as needed, although additional costs for outside services are not covered by the membership.
Does Ohana offer services beyond basic primary care?
Yes — the Ohana DPC offers additional services like hormone therapy, IV therapy, weight-loss care, and more. These services are available without a membership, and at discounted prices to our members.
